ACH transfers are electronic payments made through the ACH Network – a U.S. nationwide network that enables the transfer of funds between banks and financial institutions electronically. ACH transfers usually take 3 to 5 business days to process.

A wire transfer is a method of transferring funds electronically between banks from one account to another.

Wire transfers from a U.S. bank account typically take 1-3 business days to reach other U.S. bank accounts. International wire transfers typically take 5-7 business days.

An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a unique number used to identify a customer’s bank account. Not all countries use IBANs, but for some countries an IBAN is required when sending international wire transfers.

The structure of an IBAN will vary by country – but it will always start with a 2-letter country code (e.g., VG for British Virgin Islands, GB for Great Britain, etc.).

A SWIFT code is an international code that identifies a specific bank worldwide. It's also known as a Bank Identification Code (BIC).

A SWIFT code consists of 8 or 11 characters and is required when sending an international wire transfer.

East West Bank’s SWIFT code is EWBKUS66XXX

When setting up an ACH transfer from a U.S. bank, brokerage or third party payment provider to your East West Bank account – you may be asked to verify your transfer instruction using trial deposits (also referred to as test deposits or micro deposits).

  1. Input your East West Bank account information where required and submit your ACH transfer request.
  2. If trial deposits / test deposits / micro deposits are the required verification method, follow the instructions provided by the external U.S. bank, brokerage, or third party payment provider for verification.
  3. Generally, within 1 – 3 business days after you submit the ACH transfer request, you should start checking your transaction history for 2 small deposits (each less than $1.00). To access your transaction history, go to your app Dashboard, and tap the account under My Accounts.
  4. Once you confirm that the 2 small deposit amounts (exact amount will be provided by the sending bank, brokerage or payment provider) have been received in your East West Bank account, you should complete the verification process as instructed on the external U.S. bank, brokerage or third party payment provider’s platform.

If you do not complete verification within the specified amount of time (exact duration determined by the sending bank, brokerage or payment provider), the test deposits will expire and you will need to restart the process again.
