Dominic Ng, Chairman and CEO of East West Bank

Dominic Ng is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of East West Bank (NASDAQ: EWBC), the largest publicly listed independent bank headquartered in Southern California. Since joining the Bank in 1991, Dominic has transformed East West from a small savings and loan association with $600 million in assets into a global full-service commercial bank today with total assets of $69.6 billion. Its 3,000+ employees serve more than 550,000 customers worldwide. S&P Global Market Intelligence and Bank Director ranked East West as the #1 Performing Bank in 2023.

Dominic served as Chair of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the private-sector arm of APEC, advising heads of state and government on economic growth. Dominic currently serves on the governing boards of Mattel, Inc. (NYSE: MAT), University of Southern California (USC), and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His previous board service includes the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Los Angeles Branch; PacifiCare Health Systems (formerly NYSE: PHS); Asia Society; and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

American Banker recognized Dominic as Banker of the Year for successfully executing his vision while maintaining credit discipline and building East West into one of the nation’s most profitable regional banks. Among other recognition for his business achievements and philanthropic impact, Dominic was named Business Person of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal; one of Forbes’ 25 most notable Chinese Americans, and one of the Los Angeles Times’ 100 most influential Angelenos. His thought pieces have been published in Forbes, the Los Angeles Times, Nikkei Asia, and the South China Morning Post, among other media outlets.

The Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University honored Dominic in 2024 for his championship of the Asian American Pacific Islander community and also named a scholarship in his honor to support the next generation of scholars and leaders. The University of Houston honored Dominic and his wife for their lifelong championship of student academic support with the dedication of the Dominic and Ellen Ng Academic Center for Excellence. Dominic also received the Alexis de Tocqueville Award—United Way Worldwide’s highest distinction—for his leadership as a long-time board member and the first Asian American campaign chair for United Way of Greater Los Angeles, raising a record $66 million. His effective fundraising approach now serves as a best practice for other United Way chapters.

A trusted commentator on banking, finance, and foreign policy, Dominic has addressed business, government, academic, and civic audiences across the U.S. and Asia. He is a pioneer in bridging the gap between American and Asian cultures and the arts. His persistent efforts to expand East-West cultural understanding inspired collaboration between East West Bank and mainstream institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Huntington Library; the Bowers Museum; and The Broad.

Prior to taking the helm at East West Bank, Dominic held senior leadership positions at Deloitte & Touche in Houston and Los Angeles. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Occidental College.
