On a recent sunny Saturday, a group of our Southern California associates joined hands with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a deserving family in Altadena, CA.
It was a particularly meaningful day of service because the bank associates who worked on the affordable mortgage for this family also got to meet and build alongside them! In addition, as a member bank of FHLBank San Francisco, we helped the homeowners receive a downpayment assistance grant through the Workforce Initiative Subsidy for Homeownership (WISH) Program.
As part of our commitment to preserve affordable housing and increase homeownership, our associates left the comforts of their desks and rolled up their sleeves to work on interior and exterior finishes of this new build. They shaped the landscape, graded the soil, set up an efficient irrigation system, sanded flooring, and more, all efforts which make this house one step closer to being called “a home.”
