In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, East West Bank partnered with the Chinese American Museum (CAM) to support their mission of education and cultural preservation. Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles’ original Chinatown, CAM provides a space to explore the rich history and lasting contributions of Chinese Americans.
To bring this celebration to life, East West Bank associate volunteers stepped away from their desks and into the community. Volunteers welcomed 100 fourth-grade students from William Northrup Elementary, a Title 1 school, for a day of learning and creativity. Students toured the museum, gaining insight into Chinese American history, then participated in a hands-on financial literacy lesson led by our volunteers using Banzai’s engaging curriculum. Together, they explored the value of saving and learned how to apply the 50/30/20 budgeting rule to real-life situations.
The day wrapped up with a fun cultural craft—making traditional Chinese paper lanterns—and a shared lunch before students headed back to school, smiles on their faces and new knowledge in their pockets.
