“Trees for Threes” Lakers Partnership Beautifies LA’s Urban Community
PUBLISHED APRIL 2, 2016
On Saturday, April 2, 2016, over 30 East West Bank associates and their family members partnered with the Los Angeles Lakers, TreePeople, Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC), and City Plants to plant trees and beautify the West Adams neighborhood of South Los Angeles. Joining the volunteer efforts were Lakers Forward Julius Randle as well as the Laker Girls.
Each time the Lakers scored a three-pointer during a home game, the bank funded the planting of a tree in Los Angeles. During last year’s involvement, we planted close to 200 trees. This year, the team hit 278 three-pointers which, in turn, led to the increase in trees planted. In addition to providing financial support, we also staffed an impressive volunteer workforce to help plant the trees. Our volunteers were involved in every facet of the tree planting including digging holes, building watering berms, staking the trees, and even naming each tree.
As the official sponsor of Lakers “Trees for Threes” eco-initiative, we are proud to play our part in increasing the green coverage in urban communities, leading us to enjoy shade and clean air for generations to come!
