EWB Helps Over 150 Families at Recent Free Tax Prep Fair
PUBLISHED MARCH 19, 2016
On Saturday, March 19, 2016, the bank partnered with the Cal EITC4me, United Way of Greater LA, and the PUENTE Learning Center on a Free Tax Prep & Resource Fair in the city of Boyle Heights. The event was designed to offer free tax filing assistance for low- to moderate-income individuals and families in the Los Angeles County. That day, more than 150 individuals and families attended and over 20 EWB employees helped with various work stations such as the check in, tax prep, medical screenings, farmers’ market, resource fair, as well as the kids’ fun play area.
“The day made a huge impact on many individuals,” shared Dorothy Chan, East West Bank VP- Community Development Manager. “One woman even cried when she discovered she was going to get nearly $6,500 back on her tax return.” Important events like this Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Day means that extra money goes back into the pockets of many community members, which can then be used for savings, investments, college tuition, or basic needs in their daily life. It’s a great feeling to volunteer and get involved in making such a critical program a success.
