Houston Hosts Summer Camp Finance Class
PUBLISHED JUNE 26, 2019
Summer—the perfect time for pool days, camping trips…and learning about money! In partnership with Chinese Community Center (CCC) and Junior Achievement (JA), our Houston associates recently volunteered to teach financial literacy to over 100 K-8th grade students during CCC’s Summer Youth Camp. CCC is a comprehensive social service organization in Southwest Houston that provides educational and social service programs that help new immigrants settle into their new communities and acculturate.
The Summer Youth Camp is a fun way for local students to learn theme-inspired STEM, art, social studies and English curriculum in a hands-on way. During the camp, our volunteers taught students about earning, saving and sharing money as well as basic concepts of professionalism such as how to shake hands properly and the skills needed for a variety of careers. Through interactive games and activities, the campers learned how to manage their spending and made decisions on what/how to spend money so they end up with no debt.
Teaching students important life concepts such as money and professional skills need to go beyond the school year. A huge thanks to our Houston associates for creating real-world experiences for these young students during their summer camp!
