Knowledge is Power – EWB continues to promote financial literacy programs through partnerships
PUBLISHED March 26, 2015
Knowledge is power. That’s why we continue to promote financial literacy programs through partnerships in the communities we serve. East West Bank and the Houston Rockets launched its first “Save Smart, Score Big” Financial Literacy Program in 2012 to meet the ongoing needs of teaching students the fundamental principles of banking, including budgeting, saving, and smart money management. Nearly 200 students have participated in this program since its inception.
On March 26, 2015, Rockets players K. J. McDaniels, Donatas Motiejunas, and Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy, were joined by Esau Liu, SVP-Team Manager in Commercial Lending-Houston, a group of devoted EWB teacher-volunteers (Richard Spicer, James J. Chen, Judith Chang, Ju-Chin Fu, Long Hoang, Robert Nguyen), and Anh Doung, Assistant Principal at Harmony School of Ingenuity, for a motivational rally and presented certificates of achievement to 60 dedicated 6th grade students at the Harmony School of Ingenuity. These students were recognized and awarded for completing the 4 sessions of the “Save Smart, Score Big” Financial Literacy Program. The rally was well attended by 400 students from various grade levels who were also inspired by this program.
