The bank recently hosted the first of three “Pet Adoption Series” events in partnership with the South Los Angeles Animal Services Center, an animal shelter serving the low-to-moderate income communities of South Los Angeles and beyond.

At the event, we offered individuals and families an opportunity to save a loving animal by subsidizing 50% of adoption fees and giving out a starter kit gift to each family that adopted a pet. Our volunteers helped direct guests, answered adoption questions, and even hosted a craft table for guests to create handmade toys for their four-legged friends. During this last event, a dozen animals got adopted, with more being adopted in the coming weeks. Through this series, we are proud to be providing more people with the ability to love and care for pets, showing that “love has no socioeconomic barriers.”

East West Bank is the first bank to host an adoption event like this in the shelter’s history,” remarked Javier Lopez, supervisor at the South Los Angeles Animal Services Center. He continued, “With our joint efforts, we can save more lives! Through the bank’s support, many families can now experience the lifetime of memories and unconditional love their new furry companion will bring.”

To add to the cheer, one of our clients Think Dog by Delca, also generously donated dog and cat toys to fill the starter kit bags given out. Think Dog also took an extra step to reach out to their friends at Tender & True Pet Nutrition to donate pet food.

Aside from helping the community, the pet adoption series also left a lasting impact on our associates. Cathy Loengaa of Mortgage Loan Underwriting Production shared, “I’m the proud mommy of two adopted doggies and one amazing kitty cat. Loving and providing for my pets is a big stress reducer and I’m so happy to see that EWB loves animals too!” Another associate, IT Operations’ Andrew Wachter, continued, “Thank you so much for sponsoring this! All my pets have been adopted from shelters. I, for one, am very grateful I work for such a kind and enlightened company.”

Many thanks to all our partners and volunteers for helping spread the joy and helping our furry companions find their “furever” homes!
