La Casa de San Gabriel - Financial Training Workshops
PUBLISHED March 23, 2013
Since 2010, East West Bank has partnered with community resource provider La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center (La Casa) offering informational courses on banking and financial services to La Casa’s members. Bank associates in conjunction with La Casa have hosted a six-course financial workshop providing information about how banks serve the community, what community resources and programs are available, and how East West Bank supports the community in their financial objectives. The classes are conducted in Spanish by long-time East West Bank associate Fernando Chaves and supported by other bank officers. The most recent six-course program ran from March to April 2013, with 23 adult students attending the courses.
As a family resource center in the West San Gabriel Valley, La Casa serves approximately 6000 clients per year, ranging from infants to the elderly. The Center works primarily to help its disadvantaged Hispanic and Native American neighbors in their efforts to overcome the barriers of limited education, underemployment, poverty, language, inadequate housing and lack of medical care.
