In April 2013, associates from East West Bank joined hands with the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation for the “Heal the Bay Beach Clean-up Activity” at Los Angeles’ Dockweiler Beach. More than 100 volunteers, including Los Angeles Lakers players Robert Sacre and Darius Morris, Lakers cheerleaders, East West Bank volunteers and Los Angeles Lakers fans came together to help remove 66 pounds of ocean-bound debris – including Styrofoam, plastic bags, glass bottles and plastic bottle caps – from the sand and nearby dunes. Through their participation and efforts, volunteers made a difference in helping to protect our environment and improve the quality of life along Southern California’s coastlines.

In celebration of Earth Month, East West Bank and the Los Angeles Lakers presented the “Eco Hero Award” to the Heal the Bay organization at the Staples Center on April 9, 2013 for their outstanding work to save the beaches and for their active involvement in “Go Green” initiatives. Over 20,000 Lakers fans received an eco-friendly bag sponsored by East West Bank.
