Planting a Food Haven of Nutritious Produce

MARCH 2, 2023

Our Southeast Texas associates recently volunteered with our partner, Target Hunger, who serves vulnerable households that suffer from food insecurity, to build a community garden to provide fresh produce for residents.

In collaboration with Target Hunger, our volunteers helped pull out weeds, planted seeds and build water beds to grow nutritious produce that will be distributed to families in Houston's food deserts. Food deserts, like those located in the Fifth Ward, are communities lacking access to fresh foods and a drought of supermarkets. This results in an influx of fast-food restaurants, liquor stores, and small convenience stores, which pose a significant risk to the health and well-being of citizens.

Building community gardens like this is critical to improving our community’s quality of life. A heartfelt thanks to our Target Hunger and volunteers for providing nutritious produce to thousands of vulnerable households suffering from food insecurity.
