East West Bank was a proud major sponsor of the Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs Teen Summit which took place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the UCLA campus. More than 1,400 Boys and Girls Club country-wide members, ages 14-18, attended this event from 8am to 3pm. This year’s Teen Summit theme was “Celebrating Diversity & Inclusiveness” which focused on the effects of bullying and self-empowerment to help teens embrace diversity. The Teen Summit is designed to empower teens to expect more and to be more on all levels through inspiring speakers and interactive breakout sessions.
At this event, there were two sets of 5 breakout sessions focusing on college & career readiness as well as personal and professional development. Our bank’s Silverlake branch manager, Daniel Navarro, participated as one of five panelists on the career readiness session. Other panelists included On Air personality at KFI AM640, Walmart, WSS, Boys & Girls Club of Pomona Valley, Earth Echo International and City of West Hollywood. In addition, our associates Jezika Garcia (Silverlake), Bonnie Dang (L.A. Chinatown) and Leonardo Magana (Lincoln Heights) manned the East West Bank booth to answer inquiries pertaining to our bank’s products and services.
Actor Danny Trejo was the keynote speaker with positive messages and teens took part in workshops that covered online and offline bullying, LGBT issues, goal setting and self-acceptance. The event was truly fun, inspiring, educational, and offered a memorable experience for the youth at a very pivotal time in their lives.
Sponsorship from this event will further support the vital after school programs that these 27 Boys & Girls Clubs offer in Greater Los Angeles for youth at all socio-economic levels. Besides East West Bank, sponsors included NBC4, Southern California Edison International, Radio Disney, Nestle, IBM, Staples Foundation, AEG, Supervisor Hilda Solis, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, Panda Express, Western Dental and Time Warner Cable.
