Stronger Than Nails: EWB Leaders Put in Sweat Equity to Build Affordable Housing

MAY 6, 2022

In partnership with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, a large group of primarily female leaders from the bank recently volunteered to build an affordable home for low-income families in Pasadena, CA.

East West Bank was the lead sponsor for Women Build, SGV Habitat's biggest annual signature event which brought women and their allies together to raise funds and build homes side-by-side with women in need of affordable housing.  This event highlights how wage gap and lack of access to affordable housing disproportionately affects women. Our involvement in this year's SGV Habitat Women Build is part of the bank's expanded community and business relationship with Habitat for Humanity chapters across the nation.

Leading our volunteer crew's building efforts was Lisa Kim (EVP, General Counsel) and Robert Lo (EVP, Head of Commercial Real Estate Banking and SGV Habitat for Humanity board member). Together, the team tirelessly nailed plywood walls to the frame of the home, which will eventually become two 3-bedroom/2-bathroom homes that will house two families when completed in September 2022.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers who participated in Women Build and are making affordable housing in our communities a reality, one home at a time.
