Making a Child's Playhouse Dream Come True

MAY 18, 2022

In partnership with Houston Habitat for Humanity, our Houston associates recently participated in a playhouse build for the children of veteran families. The Habitat Playhouse Build program provides children with a space to call their own, while supporting Habitat's mission to provide families with affordable housing solutions.

Each year, Houston Habitat selects local families and charities to receive playhouses. Many playhouses go to active military and veteran families, as well as nonprofits in the area. This year, the playhouses are going to the children of veterans: 1) Rhys, whose parents were both air force veterans with his dad as a civil engineer and mom as an air traffic controller, and 2) Hailey, whose dad was an Army infantryman.

Ten-year-old Rhys wanted a cottage themed playhouse in bright red and blue while nine-year-old Hailey decided she wanted something different for her playhouse with an anime cat themed playhouse with white, teal, and yellow. Our EWB volunteers wasted no time to nail and paint away in order to make these two kids' playhouse dreams come true.

We can't wait to see the smiles on Rhys and Hailey's faces when they pick up their new playhouse, a place where they can let their imaginations grow.
