Our New York associate, Michelle Tan, recently served as a Junior Achievement Online Judge to review six business plans from local New York high school students.

The JA New York Business Plan Competition (BPC) is an intensive entrepreneurship education experience for high school students. Since its inception in 2008, over 7,500 high school students have received valuable business and entrepreneurship education. For six weeks, students work in teams to create an original business plan in response to the theme: Innovative services help solve problems in the community. Students' business should provide a service for the consumers in their community and must be a for-profit business.

As an online judge, Michelle reviewed and assess students’ written plans, financial spreadsheet, and PowerPoint presentation. The rating was then given based on creativity, tagline, Marketing Plan, projection cost, target market, return of investment, competitive edge. Most importantly, students received feedback to help them reflect and learn from real world perspectives, which would enhance their plan in this entrepreneurial program.
