Junior Achievement Financial Literacy Program
Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. EWB works in conjunction with JA on the Financial Literacy Program that's geared for K-12 grade students in the LMI communities. Volunteers in the program teach 30 minute classes once a week for five weeks. N. CA, S. CA and Houston have completed the program this year, and we anticipate continuing this program on an annual basis.
Parent Opportunity Network Program
Asian Pacific American Legal Center's (APALC) mission is to advocate for civil rights, provide legal services and education, build coalitions to positively influence and impact Asian Pacific Americans. and create a more equitable and harmonious society. EWB is co-sponsoring with APALC on Parent Opportunity Network's annual summit of parent leaders from throughout LA county where they can learn, network and build a collaborative movement for school reform for all public school students in the region.
La Casa de San Gabriel Workshop
EWB worked in conjunction with La Casa de San Gabriel, a non-profit organization serving the unbanked and underbanked LMI individuals, to host 12 informational courses on introductory banking. The purpose of each course is to provide a basic understanding of how a bank serves the community, what resources are available to the community and how EWB can support the community in their financial objectives. The classes were conducted in Spanish by long time EWB employee, Fernando Chaves, and supported by other EWB officers. EWB will continue to work with La Casa to develop additional workshops.
